Blog assessment criteria

27 Apr

Oh hello!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter scrambling to get your various tasks done. As a reminder, here is a list of your assessment criteria – note that it’s already on the menu in this blog.

  • Relevance of posts to the course
  • How well written your blog posts are – are they concise, clear, error free.
  • How well your blog posts make use of the affordances of the online environment?
  • The design choices in your blog – have you chosen an appropriate template, layout, visual presentation?
  • Your CV being complete, clearly presented, and linked to your published work.

In tutes you should have written five blogs on….

  1. Australia’s networked news environment.  Australia is part of a global networked news environment, where the output of professional news organisations is augmented, commented on, criticized and supplemented by amateur and semi-pro online publishing. Think about the different strategies different organisations use in promoting and using online content. Also in this tute you should have turned your minds to customising your blog, putting up a blog roll and embedding YouTube videos.
  2. News geography. Write a story on your blog covering a big event of recent days – the earthquake (a specific aspect would be good, say the nuclear reactors), Libya, Round one of the NRL for the sporties, whatever. Imagine you’re doing an online only story rounding things up for your employer. They need to include: an seo headline; One par at least of summary; one par giving context withat least 5  links to other sites, at least one embedded google map; and at least one embedded video/audio.
  3. Multimedia Assignment. In this week’s tutes you presented your pitches for your group audio-slideshow project and were set t blog about the pitch and how your story was going.
  4. Blogger blog blog. Pick a blogger from a mainstream news organisation. How do they develop a unique tone/voice/set of concerns? How do they facilitate conversation on their blog. Look at the comments system on a mainstream news site. What do they ask of the commenter? What are the expectations? What is the standard of moderation like? Are expectations clear? What is the comment culture like? Look at a twitter account from a mainstream news site. is it conversational? Experimental? Is it just linking back to the site or is it being used to engage with readers?
  5. Professional uses of social media. See blog post directly below.

You will need another five blog posts relevant to the course for which you can use your imagination.
